When and where is the Relay For Life of North Branford?
The Relay runs from 10am on Saturday June 2nd to 10am Sunday June 3rd, at the North Branford High School Track.
Is there a registration fee?
$10 per person. Each registered participant will receive an event T-shirt.
What about my kids, what will they do ?
Kids are very much part of the Relay For Life. The Kids Care program offers them the chance to form their own teams and
provides kids activities during the day. Visit the Kids Care page for details as the program develops.
Where does the money go?
All money raised by the Relay For Life, including registration fees, funds raised by teams, corporate sponsorships and other
donations, goes to support the American Cancer Society's programs of research, education, advocacy, and service (learn
more). In Connecticut alone, the ACS currently provides over $9 million in cancer research funding through institutions such as
Yale and UConn*.
During fundraising, who should checks be made payable to?
All checks should be made payable to the "American Cancer Society".
What is the theme of the Relay ?
This year's theme is yet to be decided. Do you have an idea...come along to one of the meetings and share it!
It's an overnight event, where will I sleep?
Teams will have campsites adjacent to the track. Bring your tent, sleeping bags, lawn chairs, and anything else you might
need. Begin setting up your campsite at 8am and leave it set up until after the closing ceremony on Sunday.
What about food?
Concessions will be available throughout the day on Saturday (hot dogs, burgers, pizza, snacks, drinks, etc) and for
breakfast on Sunday morning, with proceeds going to the Relay fundraising total. Feel free to bring you own food and
beverages. Remember that this is a family event and is on school property, so alcohol is not permitted. The event is also
tobacco free.
Why must one team member always be on the track?
Those living with cancer have to fight it every minute of every day. Teams cannot take a break because cancer patients
cannot take a break from the disease.
Why is Relay a 24 hour event?
Cancer is a 24-hour a day, 7-day a week disease. It's there in the morning and it's there at night. Relay as an overnight
event to symbolize the fact that cancer never sleeps.
Okay, this sounds like a great time, now what do I do?
Contact any committee member for more information (contact info), or come to one of the pre-event meetings (see schedule)
What can't I bring ?
Pets, rollerblades/skates, bicycles, skateboards, generators, or any type of tobacco or alcohol.
What's with all the purple text then?
Purple is not only the official color of Relay For Life but it's also the North Branford color. There's another reason to come
along!
